Photo is my mum in law, June, Sian & Kate.

We went to see Mamma Mia! today and all I can say is, if you haven't seen this amazing film yet, you must go! And I'll come with you. It was superb.

There was one song in particular that had me crying - there is a scene when the mother and daughter are preparing for the wedding and this song is played. It's one I haven't heard for years, certainly not since I had children, and it touched me very deeply. Both because of my two beautiful girls who are growing up so fast, and also because of K....who I fear is also "slipping through my fingers". Here are the lyrics and if you don't know the song, try to listen to it...

Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while
The feeling that I'm losing her forever
And without really entering her world
I'm glad whenever I can share her laughter
That funny little girl

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

Sleep in our eyes, her and me at the breakfast table
Barely awake, I let precious time go by
Then when she's gone there's that odd melancholy feeling
And a sense of guilt I can't deny
What happened to the wonderful adventures
The places I had planned for us to go
(Slipping through my fingers all the time)
Well, some of that we did but most we didn't
And why I just don't know

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

Sometimes I wish that I could freeze the picture
And save it from the funny tricks of time
Slipping through my fingers

Slipping through my fingers all the time

Schoolbag in hand she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile

I don't ever remember hearing that Abba song but it is really lovely. They grow up so quickly don't they? That's a good photograph, very candid.

I intend seeing the film in the near future, I've heard nothing but good reports about it. :)

I love the photo of your girls and Phil's mother. I've heard lots of good things about this movie; maybe I'll have to go see it!

that bit in the film got me too. Made me remember Ali's wedding day and how stressed I was and how much I loved her....Maisie and I went on Wednesday and we both loved it. Maisie said that it reminded her of me and Barry, how lovely is that? What an amazingly supple and elegant woman Meryl Streep is and as for Piers Brosnan, wow, a very special film indeed. Barry was sad he missed it, he had to work!

I don't remember this song either...but I LOVE ABBA. Haven't seen the movie yet...I'm not much of a movie goer...but I may have to get out for this one.

I know exactly what you mean about your girls growing up....my daughter will be a Junior in High School...only this year and next left until College. Whew! time flies!
