One of the best places we visited on holiday was Chartwell, home of Winston Churchill. We liked it so much we went twice.

He had a wonderful gift for words and here are some of my favourite Churchill quotes..

Courage consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.

The British nation is unique in this respect. They are the only people who like to be told how bad things are, who like to be told the worst.

You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.

Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.

I LOVE Winston Churchill -- as does my son, B. There was another quote of his that I absolutely adore. Pardon me for butchering it, but it was in the lines of Winston being somewhat drunk at a party and a supposed "proper lady" pointing out his drunkeness.

Winston's response was, "Ma'am, I may be drunk but you're ugly. In the morning I will be sober, but you will still be ugly."
