These photos aren't new but I'm posting them today because it's a special date in the US. The top one is a view of Yosemite, taken three years ago on our first visit to California. Like everyone who goes there we were overwhelmed by the beauty of the place and looking at this photo brings back so many wonderful memories.
The second picture was taken the following year when our California friends came over to see us. It was taken on a trip to Edinburgh in July, when it was as rainy, cold and windy as November (or indeed this July!) They never let the bad weather get them down and were as great guests as they were hosts. Here they are, huddled under umbrellas, looking up at the Edinburgh scenery.
I can't wait to see them again. We all miss them so much. I hope they, and my other American friends have a wonderful 4th July.

Hear hear! I do envy the Americans and their celebrations. Sadly it seems to me that we are no longer allowed to be proud of our "Englishness"...I remember on St George's Day the problems some people had when they wanted to fly the flag. Hope all your American blog pals have a great day.

Thanx Julie! You know, I think I need to borrow some scuba gear so you can hide me in your suitcase before you leave out for Yosemite from this neck of the woods ;P
Wonderful Yosemite shot - I can't wait to see all the beautiful photos you'll take this time round on your trip.
I love the banner on your blog; how do you create them?

The new header looks great here on your blog! The colors are so perfect!
Hi Anna,
Nice to see a part of California, also that your Cal-friends came over,Pity about the weather, but typical European too.
The top of your blog look great,I like it,
JoAnn
That Yosemite shot is wonderful. I've never been there myself, but I have been to Yellowstone, and even the memories of it amaze me with the beauty.
This is a funny set of photos to compare and contrast. I wouldn't care if it rained either if I ever get over there. I would just be thankful to go.
Both shots are great. Thanks for the 4th of July greeting :)
