This week has been another roller-coaster of emotional ups and downs: I honestly don't really know how I'm feeling from one minute to the next! The photo shows Kate & Sian paddling in a river near Watendlath proving that even big girls of 16 & 14 can enjoy the pleasures of wading in wellies!

I bought a new camera this week. We have four wedding bookings already for next year and I don't think my little D40, which is really an entry-level DSLR, is up to some of the challenging lighting situations every wedding seems to throw up. As I have arthritis in my hands and shoulders, I have to be wary of how much a camera weighs, especially when my beloved (but heavy!) Sigma lens is attached to it. So I went for the D90, the updated version of the other camera I own, the D80.

We went into Chester on Saturday afternoon; it was frantically busy and I was amazed to see that Christmas shopping seems well underway already! I loathe the shops when it's busy and could feel myself getting crosser and crosser every time someone bashed me with their parcels! However, it did bring home to me that we haven't got long to buy stuff and so we did actually buy a few presents like perfume for the girls and a few stocking fillers. i have such mixed feelings about Christmas this year!

I do hope that things sort themselves out for you.

You are very brave going into Chester on a Saturday afternoon. In six years we have only been into Chester once on a Saturday afternoon. Never again!

By the way, I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet, if that makes you feel any better.

Sorry it's all ups and downs for you. Well, not sorry about the ups, obviously. Why did I never realise you had arthritis - it's obviously something you don't mention much even though arthritis is usually such a constant issue.
I'm going to buy out Amazon and let the shops go hang this year. (And when I say buy out - I mean 'buy out' if my children's wishlists are anything to go by.)

I have given you an Award but only if you wish to accept it, of course. I know a lot of people are not happy about the requirements of Awards so I am happy to change the rules and say you are welcome to the award if you want it but the passing on ‘rule’ is optional. Whatever your decision thanks for keeping up such an enjoyable blog.

You posted this a while back....hoping you are on the "up side" of the roller coaster and that there is no down :) I do know how stressful it is when loved ones are ill...hang in there!

Would love to hear how you like the D90...I've been eyeing that one for several months :)

I love the photo. What a beautiful place.

Congrats on the new camera. The D90 is an awesome camera, the better high-ISO performance with the cmos sensor made it my dream camera.

I was talking photography with a friend at work the other day and was telling him how the D90 had features that I would have never dreamt of even 10 years ago. Hard to believe that the features of today's "pro/consumer" cameras are so incredible. ISO 3200 photos that look incredible with just a touch of noise reduction in your favorite image program? AMAZING!

I have a cruddy back, been through 4 surgeries and have the titanium rods to prove it, so the lightness of the D90 helps me too. (I am a really big man though, and can probably deal with a heavier camera than most.)

Unless you're going into a war zone, with decent care a D90 should be unstoppable. Seriously, how many Canons/Nikons have you actually seen fail? My old Canon AE-1 still keeps working after decades of decent care and average treatment. No reason why today's digital wonders will not do the same.

Have fun!

(Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I've been asked to learn a couple of new technologies on my own time for work (electrical engineer), and I just have been working, studying on my own, and then falling into bed. Not much time for blogging. But, it won't be forever, and I'll be back as a regular viewer. -- John)
